Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond brings extensive experience in the field of Aboriginal law to her current practice, which sees her appear at all levels of court on cases relating to land claims, Indigenous and human rights matters, and public law litigation. She served as a Saskatchewan provincial court judge for 20 years, and as B.C.’s first representative for children and youth. Turpel-Lafond is the inaugural director of the University of British Columbia’s Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre, and was appointed to conduct a review of Indigenous-specific racism in B.C.’s health-care system.
