Manny Jules has dedicated over 40 years of his life to public service in support of Aboriginal issues. He is a member of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc and served as chief from 1984 to 2000. Jules led the amendment to the Indian Act in 1988 so that First Nations could exercise the jurisdiction to levy property taxes on-reserve. The Indian Taxation Advisory Board and the current First Nations property tax system were created as a result of his vision and efforts. Jules was the driving force behind the First Nations Fiscal Management Act, passed by Parliament in 2005, which created the First Nations Tax Commission.
